FIFA has released the full list of match officials for the FIFA World Cup 2026, with no Nigerian referee among those selected for the tournament.
The global football governing body announced a total of 170 officials for the competition, which includes 52 referees, 88 assistant referees, and 30 video match officials drawn from across all six confederations and 50 member associations.
According to a post obtained from FIFA’s website on Friday, FIFA said the selection was based on a “quality first” principle, with candidates assessed over three years based on consistency of performance at domestic, international, and FIFA competitions.
FIFA’s Chief Refereeing Officer, Pierluigi Collina, said the selected officials represent the best in the world after a rigorous evaluation process.

“The selected match officials are the very best in the world. They were part of a wider pool of officials that was identified and monitored over the past three years,” Collina said.
He added that all officials had undergone continuous assessment, training seminars, and fitness monitoring, with support from FIFA’s technical and medical teams to ensure optimal performance ahead of the tournament. Punch
