Killaboi
The Lagos State Government on Wednesday commenced the trial of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, popularly known as “Killaboi,” over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe.
Nnayereugo, who was arraigned on November 17, 2025, at the Lagos High Court, Igbosere, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges, which allege he stabbed Augusta to death and indecently interfered with her corpse by allegedly cutting open her stomach and removing body parts. The offences contravene Sections 165 and 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the prosecution called its first witness, Reginald Okonye, the deceased’s uncle and Regional Head of Sales, West and Central Africa for Siemens Energy. Okonye gave a detailed account of how Augusta’s body was discovered at Nnayereugo’s residence in Oral Estate, Ajah.
“My niece’s mother reported that she had been unable to reach Augusta for three days. Her brother was also worried. We contacted her roommate at the Lead City University, Ibadan, who advised we check Benjamin’s residence,” Okonye told the court.
He said that upon reaching the estate, access to the house was initially denied, but police accompanied the family after persuasion. They eventually entered the premises through an upstairs window using a ladder, where Okonye discovered Augusta’s lifeless body in a pool of blood.
“I deliberately refrained from raising an alarm to avoid distressing my sister. The police later evacuated the body around 2 a.m. to the morgue,” he added.Okonye also testified that he had seen social media posts allegedly made by the defendant confessing to the killing after a quarrel with Augusta.
The prosecution sought to tender photographs of the deceased and the Ajah residence, which Justice Ibironke Harrison admitted as exhibits after defence counsel, Senior Advocate Marcel Oru, reserved objections. The court adjourned the matter until Thursday, March 5, for continuation of the trial, when Augusta’s mother is expected to testify.
