Residents lament one-year blackout in Lagos community

Residents of the Ajumoni Community Development Association in the Meiran area of Lagos have decried a prolonged power outage that has lasted for nearly one year, saying it has severely disrupted businesses and daily life in the community.

Community leaders who spoke in separate interviews with PUNCH Metro on Saturday said repeated efforts to get assistance from Ikeja Electric, the distribution company responsible for the area, had not yielded any result.

The Chairman of the community, Niyi Adeyanju, said the electricity company removed the community’s transformer in March 2025 for repairs but had yet to return it.

“We have been in darkness since March 27, 2025. Ikeja Electric took our transformer, saying it needed repairs, but since then, we have not seen anything,” he said. Punch
