One killed, two injured as bus rams into pole in Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified male adult lost his life after a commercial bus rammed into a street light pole at Idimu in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that two other occupants in the bus sustained varying degrees of injury in the incident.

It was gathered that the bus was en route to Iyana Ipaja when the incident happened.

An eyewitness who identified himself as Wasiu told our correspondent that the bus was at top speed, some meters away from Idimu bus-stop, when it lost control ramming into the pole on the median.

He said, “The incident happened at Alhaja bus-stop, just some meters away from Idimu, at about 4 am. The bus was speeding, and probably unknown to him that there was a sharp bend here at Alhaja. So the driver was trying to negotiate the bend when he lost control and hit the pole on the median. The impact made the one sitting beside the driver fall off the bus, thereby hitting his head on the floor and dying instantly.”

Another eyewitness, Demola Raji, said two other occupants, including the driver, were immediately taken to the hospital.

The two other occupants were seriously injured. We managed to pull them out of the vehicle and quickly rushed them to the hospital,” Raji said. Punch
