FG files cyberstalking charge against Facebook user over posts on minister’s certificate

Court
The federal government has filed criminal charge against Emorioloye Owolemi, a resident of Ondo state, over a case of alleged cyberstalking involving Olubumi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior.
The two-count charge against Owolemi was instituted at the federal high court in Akure, Ondo state capital.
“That you, EMORIOLOYE OWOLEMI, Male, Adult, on or about the 23rd day of December 2025, at Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did knowingly and intentionally sent messages and/or other electronic communications through a computer system and/or network to the public via Facebook, against the Honourable Minister of interior of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olubunmi Tunji- Ojo, whose messages were grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing in character, thereby committing the offence of cyberstalking,” part of the charge sheet reads.
The case has been fixed for March 26, 2026, for hearing.
In December 2025, Owolemi made a series of posts on Facebook alleging that the interior minister forged his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result.
A review of Owolemi’s Facebook page shows he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In January, TheCable reported that that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) authenticated the WASSCE result of Tunji-Ojo following allegations surrounding the minister’s academic records.
The attestation certificate, made available to TheCable by the minister’s media office, bears the minister’s full name, date of birth, embossed photograph, original certificate number and official authentication markings.
