Destiny Boy: One arrested over death of singer

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the death of a hip-hop singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed this in a short message sent to journalists on Monday.

PUNCH Metro recalls that news of the singer’s death went viral on Sunday.

A viral video showing the moment his body was being conveyed to a mortuary, which circulated widely on social media, sparked grief and speculation over the cause of his death.Oluseyi noted that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 22-year-old singer.

He said, “The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”

Destiny Boy is not the first Nigerian singer whose death has raised speculation among hip-hop music fans.

In 2023, the death of popular singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, sparked nationwide outrage, with multiple protests demanding justice. Punch
