Suspected bandits have abducted six people during Taraweeh prayers at a mosque in the Azara community of Kachia LGA, Kaduna state.
Quoting a resident, Tanimu Ibrahim, Daily Trust reported that the attack occurred last Thursday.
According to the report, the attackers stormed the community and fired shots into the air before abducting four men and two women.
The bandits also raided another house while fleeing and abducted two more people, but the pair later escaped while being taken into the bush.
“Two other victims were abducted, but as God would have it, they narrowly escaped on their way into the forest,” Daily Trust quoted Ibrahim as saying.
Also, a community leader, who did not want to be named for his personal safety, confirmed the abduction and said the kidnappers made contact on Friday morning, demanding a N30 million ransom for the victims’ release.
“Contact was established around 11 am on Friday when the bandits’ leader called and demanded N30 million, and he immediately switched off the phone,” he said.
The Kaduna state police command had yet to comment on the incident as of press time.
The abduction in Azara comes weeks after worshippers kidnapped from three churches in the Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru LGA of Kaduna State, regained their freedom.
On January 18, gunmen attacked the churches and abducted about 167 worshippers. Thecable
