Anambra: Pregnant woman found dead on tree

Shock gripped the residents along Uke/Ideani road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Tuesday, after sighting the lifeless body of a pregnant lady hanging on a cashew tree near the road.

Although the circumstances that led to the death of the pregnant lady are still sketchy, residents said the deceased might have either committed suicide or been murdered on Monday night.

When our correspondent visited the scene on Tuesday, the lifeless body had been evacuated by police operatives from the Ogidi Police Division and deposited in the mortuary.

However, residents and passersby, in twos and threes, were sighted analysing the possible cause of the incident.

A resident who identified himself as Ogbanna Uche, who spoke to our correspondent, said no one could identify the deceased before police operatives took away the body.

Uche said, “I own a shop along the road. We woke up this morning to see the lifeless body hanging on the cashew tree along the road. We could not immediately identify the deceased due to the way the face was placed.

“The incident might have happened late in the night because, as of the time people left for their various homes, there was no such incident. Punch
