The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced investigations into the alleged misappropriation of N2bn by some management members of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology.
Sunday PUNCH also gathered that three commissioners in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s cabinet have been invited for interrogation by the EFCC.
The probe, which started a few months ago, also led to the arrest and detention of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Olumuyiwa Odusanya.
Odusanya was arrested on Monday and released on bail on Tuesday.
A top government official who has been following the probe said, “The VC was arrested on Monday and released on Tuesday over diversion and misappropriation of funds. He was released on administrative bail. In addition, about three commissioners serving in Lagos State government have been invited and quizzed over the matter.”
When contacted on Friday, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, told Sunday PUNCH about Odusanya’s arrest and detention.
“We arrested him (Odusanya) on Monday and released him on Tuesday, and our Lagos Zonal Directorate is handling the matter. So, he is under investigation,” he said.
Findings by Sunday PUNCH revealed that a non-governmental organisation, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda, had in April this year petitioned the EFCC, alleging that Odusanya and some management members of the university misappropriated the N2bn.
The money was said to have been released in September 2024 by the Lagos State Government for the accreditation of some of the university’s departments and the provision of infrastructure.
Odusanya was accused of contract inflation and disregard for the Lagos State Public Procurement Law 2021.
