Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested one Joseph Mbake, a 36-year-old Cameroonian fisherman in Mkpanak Village, Mbo Local Government Area of the state, over alleged defilement of a 4-month-old minor.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in a statement issued in Uyo on Monday, said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 24th February 2026, at about 2 pm, after the mother, identified as Gift, raised the alarm of observing suspicious discharge from her private part while bathing her.
The command spokesperson said after a careful interrogation of the victim, she alleged that she had been sexually abused by an adult male, while also stating she could identify the suspect if seen
She stated that the operatives immediately swung into action and expanded their surveillance within the neighbourhood, leading to the arrest of the suspect and others, adding that an identification parade was subsequently conducted in accordance with laid-down procedures, during which the victim identified the suspect.
