No fewer than 50 Nigerians were arrested on Thursday by the Ghana Immigration Service for alleged involvement in cyberfraud and human trafficking.
The suspects and the landlord of the property where the arrests took place were apprehended during a coordinated security operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality of Accra.
PUNCH Metro gathered from local Ghanaian media and a statement by the GIS that the raid followed intelligence reports about foreign nationals unlawfully residing in the area, many of whom were allegedly trafficked into the country and forced into online criminal activities.
Confirming the operation, the Head of Public Affairs of the GIS, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, M. Amoako-Atta, disclosed that the arrest was based on actionable intelligence.
He stated, “The Ghana Immigration Service in the early hours of today, July 24, 2025, conducted a special operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality.
“This operation follows intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators.”
The raid, which involved other national security agencies, led to the arrest of dozens of individuals and the landlord who was allegedly harbouring them. Punch
