The Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Gwong Gwya Song, has disclosed that 30 indigenes were killed and over 500 displaced following a terrorist attack on the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attack, which occurred on February 3, 2026, left more than 160 people dead and several others injured or abducted, our correspondent reports.
Speaking with The PUNCH in Jos on Tuesday, the deputy chairman lamented the devastating impact on their people, describing the situation as “very painful.”
He said, “For now, the number of persons displaced so far is 707. Some of them have returned home, but some are still stranded.
“We have about 200 that have returned home. As a council, the chairman has done wonderfully well. He has sent at least N3m for them to get vehicles so that they can come home,” Song said.
He added, “Those who have returned are managing to put up with their loved ones. As it is right now, we are going to have a meeting with the executive chairman regarding this because we are organising a special day for those who lost their lives.
“We have about 30 of them that lost their lives, and as a community, it is very painful to us. We are organising the special day on Thursday in their honour and remembrance.”The deputy chairman noted that the returnees were not in formal IDP camps but were staying with relatives and family members who provided shelter amid the destruction.
