A young inquisitive Buffalo Bull
A Texas real estate millionaire and trophy hunter, Asher Watkins, was killed by a Cape buffalo during a hunting expedition in South Africa over the weekend, multiple sources reported on Wednesday.
The 52-year-old Dallas-based ranch broker was taking part in a guided safari hunt in the Bambisana concession in Limpopo Province, known for its wild buffalo herds, when the deadly incident occurred on Sunday.
According to South African outfitter, Coenraad Vermaak Safaris, Watkins was on foot with a professional guide when a buffalo charged “unexpectedly and without provocation.”According to The Guardian, in a statement issued by the company, they said, “The buffalo came from cover at high speed and gored Mr. Watkins fatally before any evasive action could be taken. It was a tragic and rare incident.”
Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
His mother, stepfather, and brother, who were lodging nearby at the safari camp, were informed immediately and have since returned to Texas.
Watkins, described as an avid hunter and conservation advocate, built a lucrative business brokering multimillion-dollar ranch properties across Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas through his firm, Watkins Ranch Group. Punch
