US President Donald Trump has issued a strongly worded warning to Iran, should the Islamic Republic fail to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump said “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran”.

“There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!”

The president’s comments are a dramatic escalation of his threats to the Middle Eastern country just barely 24 hours ago over the strait.

Earlier in March, Tehran said the strait, one of the world’s busiest oil shipping channels, would be opened to all except the US and its allies.

Some Pakistani and Indian ships are understood to have sailed through the waterway.

But the de facto shutdown of the strait has led to a major increase in the price of oil, sending gas prices through the roof and forcing governments to take hard-biting energy conservation measures.

Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the strait, first set on March 22, shifted after Iran warned that companies with ⁠US shares would be “completely destroyed”, along with the “power plants of regional countries hosting US bases” if Iranian energy facilities were targeted.
