Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has condemned remarks directed at Peter Obi, saying any “threat” to the former Labour Party presidential candidate is a threat to the entire opposition.
Atiku’s statement follows a warning by Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo, who said Obi must not visit the state again without security clearance.
The governor linked a recent visit by Obi to a security breach that allegedly led to the killing of three people.
The comment by Okpebholo, made during a public event last Friday, has drawn widespread criticism, with many accusing the governor of attempting to intimidate political opponents.
However, Fred Itua, chief press secretary to the governor, said his principal was not issuing a threat but reiterating the need for security coordination when politically exposed persons visit the state.
“It is imperative to state clearly that the governor did not issue any form of threat to Mr. Obi,” the statement reads. Thecable
