A bad road in Okeafa, Magboro, Ogun state
Residents and road users in communities along the Oke-Afa/Magboro Road in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have raised concerns over the deplorable condition of the road, saying it has caused hardship, frequent vehicle breakdowns, and difficulty in movement.
The residents, who spoke separately with PUNCH Metro on Monday, said the condition of the road worsens annually, particularly during the rainy season when flooding makes the area almost impassable.
Our correspondent, who visited the community, observed that the road linking the area to the main expressway, including sections of the main road itself, was riddled with deep potholes and muddy patches, severely hampering vehicular and pedestrian movement.
A commercial motorcyclist, Joseph Akinremi, lamented that the poor state of the road had repeatedly damaged his motorcycle.
“The road has damaged my shock absorber, and riding on it gives me body pains because of how bad it is,” he said.
A secondary school student, Toluwanimi Victoria, said her school bus stopped picking her up because of the road’s condition, forcing her parents to spend more on transportation.
“My school sent a letter to my parents saying they could no longer pick me up because of the bad road. That was when I was in JSS3. I am now in SS2, and I use public transport daily. I spend about N2,000 every day to go to school and return,” she noted.
A private vehicle owner, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the road had caused repeated damage to her car, especially during the rainy season when flooding often forces residents to abandon their vehicles.
She said, “The road damages my car often. Almost every month, I take it for repairs. Sometimes I spend between N250,000 and N750,000, especially on the wheels.
