Alia
Tension is mounting in Benue State following the disappearance of two persons, including a senior aide to Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Alia’s Principal Special Assistant on Youth and Media Mobilisation, Atu Terver, was reported to have gone missing on Tuesday while travelling between Makurdi and Abuja.
The second, a social media activist, Asom Jerry, has also been unaccounted for, sparking speculation online about whether he was arrested by security operatives or abducted.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Thursday, Terver’s wife, Civir, confirmed that her husband was expected in Abuja but never arrived.
“He left Makurdi on Tuesday to come and see us in Abuja, but he did not show up.
The case was reported at the police station in Abuja, and they said they were investigating. As of today, I still don’t have any useful information about his whereabouts,” she said, adding that the state government had not contacted her since her husband went missing.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had no information on the alleged arrest of the activist, Jerry, and clarified that the disappearance of the governor’s aide occurred outside the state.“I don’t have any information on the alleged arrest of the activist, as I’m just hearing it from you. Regarding the governor’s appointee, the case happened in Abuja, not in Benue State,” Edet said. Punch
